Week two flew by compared to the first week that felt like
it would never end. I believe it was because of our amazing tour guides Scott
and Tom. Tom first walked us through the Palatine Hill where he painted an
amazing picture of how the community that lived on the Palatine Hill lived. After
that, Tom led us down into the Roman forum and continued to tell us about the
history and stories of the area. The next day we had our first tour with Scott
as well, which was outstanding. I learned so much about all the places we went
and why specific buildings were built the way they were built when it comes to
their form. Scott really captured all of our attention because of how
passionate he was about everything he spoke about. That night, we had a class
with Scott so he could introduce us to subjects that he would be talking to us
about on the upcoming tour, the next day. On our final tour with Scott, we went
to
Basilica
of San Clemente which was incredible in every aspect. We went to several other
churches as well and Scott still captivated us with all of his knowledge. On
Friday, the class went out to Ostia Antica. This ancient city was abandoned
left untouched and it is remarkable! Matt led us through the city showing us
how the city plan was and how one could tell what type of space was from
another. It really surprised me to see that we could go anywhere we wanted to
within the archaeological park. We all took advantage of this and went
exploring!
