This last weekend most of the group took the three day weekend to travel to Florence and Pisa, but the few of us left behind decided to take the short vacation to further explore the city and relax. It was also exciting because this weekend was the beginning of the summer booths that open along the Tiber. Restaurants, bars, boutiques, and other various venders come and set up under tents under twinkle lights down on the river, accompanied by live music and a generous supply of characters for people watching. It was so cool to see an area usually reserved for morning runners and various homeless people completely transformed into a bustling area full of locals and tourists alike. Rome is by far the best example of successful multi use spaces that I've ever experienced; from cafes transformed into bars, markets into parking lots and restaurants, or transforming forgotten spaces into hip exciting new spaces. I'm excited to continue exploring Rome and discovering new examples of such an exciting and ever changing place.
