Exploring Ostia Antica

It's hard to believe two weeks have passed already. Yesterday we ventured out of Rome to Ostia Antica; it was such a beautiful place. My first impression of the place: scattered ruins washed in sunlight, fields of poppies, and a breeze that carried a scent of wild mint. It was fascinating seeing what was left of the ancient port city, and how they constructed their buildings. After a tour with Matt and then some lunch, I ventured off into ivy colored ruins with Kayla Stoker to explore and do some sketching. One of my sketches for the day was of the main forum.

After about 9hrs of adventuring we left the park excavations and headed straight for The Castle of Julius II. It was unfortunately closed, but we got to appreciate it's defensive Medieval exterior and massive tower.
