Roma Week 1-2

These past two weeks have been amazing, I can’t believe already only six are left!  I remember in our prep seminar classes Matt telling us he knows Rome better than he knows Moscow, and wondering how on earth that could be true because of the vast size difference between the two cities.  But now I know what he means, Rome has layered itself with thousands of years of Palimpsest – a term coined by one of our tour guides, Scott, referring to the layers of history combined into one form, made and remade to fit into the context of the time. There is so much to know and so much to learn here, and although we will be only scratching the surface into the deep history of Roma, we will and have already learned so much it blows my mind, the only one thing that blows my mind more is how much we actually don’t know as well.  It seems that the heart of humanity exists in this one place, and not just by the physical forms left from thousands of years ago, but added to these layers of palimpsest is the energy and life of those who existed here as well.
