Week 3-Ostia Antica

Another week is sadly coming to an end, and time is really beginning to fly by. Next Week marks our half way point. This week we went a really wonderful tour through some renaissance churches, did some sketching, and had our first watercolor lesson. The churches were spectacular, and our guide was filled with knowledge of every date and fact you would ever need to know. He also brought us up into this private library, which had levels and levels of old books on all four walls. I wish we were allowed to just browse through there!
Today we took the train to Ostia Antica, and spent the first part of the day touring around the ancient  city ruins. I really enjoy those types of places, because we were able to go inside basically everything, and be able to fully immerse yourself in the surroundings. Matt also showed us some places underground that I would have never been able to find myself, such as the underground heating areas for the baths. After a few hours Matt let us loose, and we went into town to look around the castle, but unfortunately you have to go in there with a guided tour. After that we still explored the ruins for a few hours, it was almost like a big maze in some parts.
In the late afternoon a few of us took the train to the sea, and paid a few euro to go onto a private beach. The money was worth the comfortable chair and clean beach. Everyone passed out on the beach for a few areas  (most woke up sunburned) and went back to Rome for a lovely evening to end a great day, and begin our weekend.
