Pompeii & Hadrian's Villa

This last week we took two day trips to see some other sights. Monday we decided on Pompeii and it was definitely worth it. The city is in really great shape for its age and the streets and buildings give ideas of what life was like back then. The houses there were great and had cool mosaics and frescoes along with gardens and courtyards. Unfortunately the museum was closed for some reason so we didnt get to see the casts of the bodies found or the majority of the statues but it was still worth it. Would have also liked more time there. Thursday we had our first crits and chose projects. Afterward we had our first sketching exhibition which was fun and made everyone want to go out and sketch some more. Friday was the Capitoline museum which was by far my favorite museum so far. Tons of work in there and a nice selection to suit many interests. Also got to see the Caravaggio because two important looking people were being let in and I just sort of followed behind them. Saturday 5 of us went to Hadrian's Villa. That guy knew how to live. Not in the best of shape but it was so peaceful there and cool views of the countryside along with the hillside town of Tivoli. The pools/ponds were really nice and formal also. We also found some interesting statues that lead us to believe Hadrian had a little something going on which was proven later on Wikipedia (of course). These two trips I would encourage others to go to. For Pompeii give yourself a good 4 hours at least because the time can go by and you realize you havent seen things. Hadrian's Villa needs a couple of hours but if you want to see Villa d'Este also in Tivoli, start your day early.
