Barcelona!!

This week began with an amazing tour with Jeffrey through the Baroque era. We saw several different churches designed by Bernini and Borromini. Both tours with Jeffrey were extremely interesting and it amazes me how much history he knows without referencing any notes. At the end of the week we went and sketched at Sant' Ignazio, which was a huge challenge to get the perspective accurate with all of the curved buildings.

Afterwards a group of us took off to Barcelona, which was amazing! It was a total different atmosphere where it was active, but there was patience and it was more relaxed. When we got off the subway our first night we were immediately facing Gaudi's Sagrada Familia. It was breathtaking! None of us knew exactly where we would end up at the stop, so it was a great surprise to be overwhelmed by such a magnificent structure. The next morning we ventured into the Sagrada Familia and it was equally as wonderful inside. The detail and difference in style works so well together. The structure has been in construction for over 125 years and is nearing completion, with the exception of the Jesus spier. We climbed up one of the towers and were able to see different angles of the Basilica, but also incredible views of the city. This was by far the top item in Barcelona and made the entire trip worth it. We ventured throughout the town, exploring other works of Gaudi, the Olympic Arena, the Barcelona Pavilion (amazing!), and many other important structures, but by far those were my favorites. This trip was amazing and I am extremely glad I went!
