Atrani & Ostia Antica

Last weekend we went to Paestum and the Amalfi Coast. Paestum was great because so far everything we have seen has been primarily Roman, this was Greek. The temples were in great shape for being as old as they are. It's a very quiet and peaceful place that gives a whole different experience compared to Rome. The museum there had the Tomb of the Diver painting that dates to almost 500 BC. Atrani was also a place that was peaceful and completely different than Rome. Everyone there knows each other. We hiked up to the top of the ridge and had great views of the coast and the inland towns built in valleys. While we were there the Regatta of the Four Maritime Powers took place. Close race but Amalfi won followed by a nice celebration on the water. The fireworks show afterward was the best I've ever seen and managed to capture almost all of it on video. Going back to Rome, we took our first tour with Jeffrey Blanchard and got to see some really cool churches. Friday we went to Ostia Antica which is an ancient port for Rome. It is now primarily in ruins that at times are overgrown with vegetation. The two most interesting things I thought were the Mithraeum and the heated floors found in buildings that are almost 2000 years old.
