I’ve always known that there were old things in this world, but today I saw a fragment of an Egyptian carving that was about 3,300 years old. I used to think if something was from the 1800s it was super old. This may seem like a silly revelation to post on a blog, but understanding the past helps put the present into context. Here in Rome there are structures that have been used by thousands of people, some for over a thousand years. Today when I took my usual shortcut past the Theatro Di Marcello I felt extraordinarily insignificant because I realized I’m not here for even a fraction of its existence. And I’m an even smaller part of human history, which makes me desire even more for every day to be worthwhile.
