The best Baroque

Borromini's Baroque is the best Baroque.  This week we went to San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane.  I remember learning about this church in the fall and instantly falling for it.  Baroque has always seemed so overwhelming to me; the ideas of Baroque are really interesting but when they come to shape and color, it's too much.
Not for Borromini.  Quattro Fontane is a beautiful and small church at the intersection of four fountains.  The plan is irregular and is resolved into a beautifully coffered oval dome.  Unlike so many other Baroque pieces almost the entire interior is white.
It is an amazing place and it feels so special and calm with the intense detailing but is peacefully left as a white space.
It was a great week, a break from the hectic and beautiful traveling, and getting to experience new parts of Rome with another great tour from Jefferey.
