Week 6: Having fun the the heat

This past week flew by! It seems like the weeks after our weekend field trips go by way to quickly. Last week the Dean joined us for a few days, which included coming on our modern tour, and doing a short crit one day in studio. It was also the week of some great soccer games, the most eventful was the Germany vs. Italy game, which we watched during our group dinner. This weekend has been very enjoyable. On Friday morning we went to the Borghese Gallery, which was probably one of my favorite museums so far, and afterward we hung out in the park for several hours. We rented an electric bike/golf kart sort of thing for an hour, which was nice because we were able to see the entire park plus the ride was quite entertaining, including losing my sandwich somewhere along the way. After the park, we went down to the National Gallery of Modern Art, which had the Andy Warhol exhibit, and there were many interesting things there such as Duchamps Urinal, and paintings by Pollock, Monet, and Van Gogh. On Saturday, I met of with 2 of my visiting friends from Idaho, and showed them around a bit. While doing that, I realized how much I have learned about this place. On Sunday, we woke up very early to go get a tour of the Presidents residence, but once we got there, the guards told us that they are not open until September......it was odd. But since we were already up there, we hung out for a bit and attended a mass at Borromini's San Carlo alle quattro Fontane. It was a wonderful service, especially the singing parts because the acoustics in that space are perfect. After mass we went over to Palazzo de esposizioni and had a delicious brunch for a few hours. We each had about 5 plates of food, and several desserts (YUM!). After brunch we walked back to our apartments and  took a much needed food coma nap, and then woke up for the soccer game at the  Circus Maximus. It was a wonderful weekend, the only thing that could have made it better would be if Italy won the Eurocup :(
