This week has been mainly about working on studio and seeing the modern architecture of Rome. Mark Hoversten, Dean of the College of Art and Architecture, was in town visiting so we were able to get feedback from him as well as having a group dinner with him and his wife. We watched the Germany/Italy game that night at dinner and Italy surprised us by winning. The streets were packed with people and cars were honking and waving flags. It was a city wide party that went late into the night. For the modern tour we went to Renzo Piano's Parco della Musica which was the coolest concert hall I have been to. We also were able to go inside thanks to two nice cleaning ladies (and Matt's persistence). After that we went to the Maxxi by Zaha Hadid. It is an interesting building because it really stands out from the other buildings in Rome. Sunday night a group of us went to the Euro 2012 Final at the Circus Maximus. The place was packed! 4 big projector screens were set up so that the thousands and thousands of fans could watch. Unfortunately Italy ended up losing so last night was one of the quietest nights we have had here.
