Last weekend we went on our last group field trip to Umbria and visited Spoleto, Perugia, and Assisi. I think that Italian hill towns are what I have been looking forward to most for quite a while, and it was amazing how mild the weather was there. It made it really comfortable to explore the area, so we spent a good amount of time hiking everywhere we could.
All three towns were extremely different. Spoleto seemed a bit quieter, with more areas to explore nature and a closer intimacy with it as a town as a whole.
Perugia, the second town we visited, was a bit more metropolitan. It has the biggest university in Italy, so there were a lot of people who were used to catering to students like us.
And finally was Assisi, which had such a different culture than the other two. It's a pilgrimage site for religious groups, so the entire culture is based around that. It was so interesting to come here after two much more laid back towns.
