While in our youth life is all about keeping busy and staying up with a fast pace. As we age the pace we desire gradually declines with the posture of our back. This pace hasn’t decreased because we’re lazy, but hopefully because we’ve learned that the grass is greener exactly where we are as long as we remember to water it. Cities seemingly are affected by this aging wisdom as well. The older the city it seems the slower the pace of life. Such is true of Rome… in some cases. Once a native Roman has reached their destination they are content and seemingly will sit or stand without worry of time or hastiness. This completely degrades of course in the tourist areas. If you want to experience the natural culture of Rome it is necessary to take the back roads and the unknown paths and away from that which tourism has ruined. You never know what’s waiting unless you go find out. That being said, watch your step on the sidewalk or the road, the sense of slow and relaxed is completely gone while traveling from one place to another. Slow at either end, but crazy fast and impatient in-transit.
