During our group trip to Atrani, we ventured off for a day in Paestum, Italy. Paestum is an ancient Greek city that was colonized in the 6th century BC. It was later taken over by the Lucanians, Romans, Christians, and finally abandoned in the 9th century AD. This trip was more then I ever expected. The massive, like 6 ft. in diameter, doric columns rising up to the sky and still holding up the entablature. Impressive! And the Temple of Hera, water colored above, is roughly 100 years older then the Parthenon. Mind boggling! The construction and engineering, to me, in ancient Greek and Roman architecture is really what fascinates me about this experience in Italy. Incredible! It is definitely true when they say you have to see it with your own eyes.
