Upon arrival, my first impression of Rome was pure excitement! After a 12 hour plane adventure from the states, Mike, Matt Boker, and myself were a bit tweaked out and jet lagged. Matt slept like a champ most of the way form JFK to Rome. I wasn’t as fortunate, clocking in a half hour of sleep. We arrived in at 9:30 am (Roma time) with the sun shining and pleasantly greeting us. From the plane to baggage claim through customs was , surprisingly quick and easy. We had planned to meet 2 other students from Idaho at the airport, but our flights were all off schedule. After waiting a half hour we decided that the other could handle. In retrospect, we made the right decision, Britney had already left the airport, and sally was delayed 8 hours. At the airport we boarded the wrong train that took us to termini instead of Trastevere. After walking around termini for sometime trying to figure out where we were, when the next train to Trastevere left, and where to get a ticket we boarded a train and headed to Trastevere. In the meantime Michael was not happy, very stressed, and at the verge of a meltdown. Matt and I took this as our first Roman adventure! After a short, 10 minute, hop to Trastevere station we arrived with no one there to greet us. Not knowing the language very well, and not having cell phones, and not knowing the area made finding our new homes complicated. We fumbled around with a pay phone for 20 minutes, trying to figure out how to change the language, let alone trying to figure out how it worked. We contacted matt form the pay phone, and he gave our final destination directions, that we carried out precisely.
Our first day in Rome was a total adventure. We learned how to navigate the airport, ride a train, buy a train ticket, ask for help, use a pay phone, and ride the metro……………
Everything has been so far so good in Rome! My first week has flown by, and is full fo memories. My first day in Roma was unforgetable
